Today Apple released iOS 9.2.1 updated version build 13D20 for Touch ID enabled iOS devices new models including iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 and 4. This new update is released to fix the iPhone unknown error 53, which bricks these latest iOS devices whenever a 3rd party Touch ID repair is carried out on these devices.

This today released of iOS 9.2.1 carries the build number 13D20 as compared to iOS 9.2.1 earlier build 13D15 released for public last month.

  • Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
  • Force restart your device.
  • Try to restore your device again.
  • If you still see error 53 when you try to restore your device, contact Apple Support.

One thing is important to note that the OTA or iTunes update of this new build is not available for every iOS device. Only those devices should need to get this new 13D20 build of iOS 9.2.1 which are effected by iPhone error 53. So it is not a regular iOS update.
