Microsoft recently released the latest version of Windows Phone called the Windows Phone 8.1.While they have been launching various windows devices under the Nokia or ‘Microsoft Mobile’ name, they need to attack the market with heavy volumes. Now many Indian manufacturers are entering the market with their windows phone devices. These devices are available with decent features and at attractive price tag. We recently saw Micromax unveil two Windows Phone 8.1 devices and now Xolo is entering the scene with their Windows Phone device.
This new device comes with an attractive price tag and is coming exclusive through an online portal. It features a decent processor, high-resolution camera, nice design and an impressive display. They have kept the weight of this phone in control to keep it under 100 Gms. This makes it the lightest Windows Phone device in the market right now. Not only is it light but also very slim and attractive. It will be released in the second week of July and is listed on online store. We take a closer look at this new device and list some reasons why you should buy this device.
Attractive Design
These Indian manufacturers started off with flimsy rebranded Chinese devices that came with generic java bases operating systems. Then came in the android operating system and they moved up by targeting the budget segment. Once they got the hang of it, they started moving up and the quality of these devices has gone up considerably. They have moved up from using cheap plastic to premium material on their devices. This is another device that has been made keeping the built quality and design in mind.
This device measures 135.8 x 67.2 x 7.2 mm and weighs just 100 Gms. To put that in perspective, the iPhone 5 is 7.6 mm thick and weighs 112 Gms. Though they haven’t used any premium materials here because they were working towards keeping the weight of this device down but still the built quality is nice. The light weight and slim design makes it look attractive and it is quite easy to handle the device with one hand.
HD Display
For now, the device is being sold at a discounted price of 9999 and for that price; you are getting quite a lot for your money. You get a 4.7 inch 720p display which comes with Dragon Trail glass protection. Yes the Micromax device comes with a 5 inch display but a device with 5 inch display isn’t exactly very handy. 4.7 inch display gives it just the perfect size. You can easily use the device with one hand but still the display isn’t exactly small. You can easily browse web or watch videos on a display this size.
It is a Windows
The transition from Windows Mobile to Windows Phone was a huge step. While the version numbers were carried forward, the operating systems were entirely different. The Windows Phone 7.5 had its fair share of issues and they addressed some of them with the 7.8 release. Still there were a lot of features that should be present but weren’t there. They added some more when they came up with the Windows Phone 8. Now this device comes with Windows Phone 8.1. After so many releases, Windows Phone has moved past its shortcomings and what we see is a carved and polished version of the operating system. You might not have tried the Windows Mobile operating system on those O2 and Asus devices but maybe now is the time to give Windows Phone a try.
Even if you don’t want to make the transition completely, this can be quite a good secondary device. So next time when you are planning to pick a budget device, keep this in mind as well. On the Windows Phone 8.1, you get quite a good number of additions. Like on earlier versions, you would have to live with the solid tile colours but on this, you can put a background behind the tiles. You also get a notification center which is quite a big addition as the multiple notifications were really annoying on previous versions. These are some of the minor changes that make the Windows Phone 8.1 a better operating system than the previous versions.
Decent Hardware and Camera
They have kept the dimensions and weight of this device well in control but in doing so, they haven’t compromised on the internals. The device packs Quad Core 1.2 GHz processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset along with Adreno 302 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. It comes with 8 GB of internal storage and has got a micro SD slot as well that can house up to 32 GB of storage. The connectivity options that you might be looking for are all here though you don’t get NFC.
It has got a pretty decent 8 megapixel primary camera as well. The camera can capture very nice shots in natural light. Indoor photography is not exactly its forte but it can capture some decent photographs indoors as well. It comes with autofocus and you get a LED flash for shooting in low light. The secondary camera is pretty decent as well with a 2 megapixel resolution. Thankfully while cutting down the weight, they have decided to spare the battery. It gets a decent 1800 mAh battery. Yes we agree that it isn’t exactly huge but it isn’t bad either considering this is a very slim and light device. They claim standby life of up to 263 hours which is quite good.
Dual SIM
There are many dual SIM devices when it comes to android operating system but they are pretty rare when we are talking about Windows Phone devices. If the absence of dual SIM feature has been stopping you from picking a Windows Phone device until now, this device might be the answer. Obviously we will see more of dual SIM windows devices in near future but for now, this is a good option, and we would say a pretty good one.
